By Paul Carter
- The "Before" State: I grew up immersed in the ocean, starting to surf in Southern California at just four years old. By the early 1990s, I began to channel that passion into professionally shaping surfboards for legendary brands like Infinity and Hobie surfboards. Later, I took that creativity to a new medium, painting tropical murals on surfboards and canvases for homes and businesses around the world. I was on my conditioned path becoming a craftsman at hand shaping and painting external things and yes money and accumulating stuff, but my soul and life eventually demanded a look inward.
- The Inspiration spark : The turning point came when I realized that the same rhythm it takes to navigate the physical ocean power is exactly what is needed to navigate our own minds, emotions, and body. I embarked on a rigorous three-year personal journey of deep self-discovery and a daily rebuilding learning to truly "know thyself" one day at a time. In the process I began realizing that true inner health and peace requires riding the "waves of change" rather than fighting them.
- The Middle: Transitioning from shaping thousands of surfboards to shaping a peaceful mind and body isn't easy. It required deep presence. I began sketching out my thoughts—not just as custom surfboards and art, but as a healing through many sketches and paintings. I realized that people don't just need more information or heavy, dense text to heal; they need an escape, a creative outlet, and a way to quiet the noise and let the mind process what is necessary or not. To get the healthy priorities in order. To break the condition chains of codependency on people places and yes, alcohol or pot or whatever the codependency is.
- The Breakthrough: I blended my lifelong crafts—surfing and shaping, and tropical and abstract artwork—into an immersive, active healing tool. Instead of just writing a book for people to read, I created the first edition (waves of change) as a coloring book and journal filled with positive black ink sketches, vibrant imagery, and a safe space for self-reflection
- The Transformation: This book helps readers step away from daily noise and distractions and find grounding peace and presence. By pairing meditative coloring with positive affirmations, reminders, and dedicated journaling pages, readers aren't just consumers of your story—they are actively working through their own thoughts. It transports them to a peaceful "tropical island" of the mind where they can slow down, stay present, and heal.
- The "Why": The world moves incredibly fast, and people are constantly searching for internal anchor points. Waves of Change serves as a creative sanctuary. It proves that you don't need external validation to heal—you just need the tools to look inside, so keep the creative fire stoked, and ride whatever waves life sends your way.Thank you for joining the positive tribes.
The first edition with new format 2026.
