learn How to fine sand a surfboard shaping tips PaulCarter 2/3

Fine sanding a new hand shaped surfboard.

Some simple tips from a rough shape to a fine sanded completed surfboard.

I use 60 grit first with a flat block for the blending and smoothing out the lines on on the bottom and the deck.  Next I will use the 1 inch foam block with 60 grit to blend the deck to the rails.  Last I use 80 grit for the fine sanding.

These are standard sized sand paper with a balsa block cut to your hand size.  You can use any type of wood, I like a lighter wood such as balsa.

I have 3 sanding blocks, one with flat no foam and one with half inch and one with 1inch foam, I mainly use the flat and 1inch foam.
Above is a nice example of a fine sanded surfboard.

Thanks for checking out my blog journal,   let me know if you have any questions or comments.

learn how to abstract paint a surfboard Paul Carter 3/3

Learn how to abstract paint a surfboard by Paul Carter

A recently hand shaped surfboard down to the abstract painting.  Be sure to practice on canvas or wood to get a feel for what your after.  I use acrylic paint which is important for the foam and Glassing, oil paints will not work with Glassing.

Have fun with the process and don't be to critical on yourself.

Let me know your questions or comments and if you like the video I would be stoked on a thumbs up.

custom handshaped sup boards surfboards stand up paddleboards
Paul Carter handshaped sup
Here is the latest Sup board for JP a 7'10 by 28 by 4 thick. This stand up paddle board is set up with five boxes for the many options an ways to ride waves from 1-6 feet.
JP requested a abstract painting with the 3 colors she liked.
This board has a nice curve through the outline and a nice nose and tail rocker for speed and manuverability with a concave to vee bottom.
I also put in two extra plugs in either side of the handle for a secondary handle which can be tucked in the handle when not in use.
One of the aspects that keep me inspired and motivated is the wide varity of surfboard shapes available this day in age.
Thanks for checking out my blogs posts let me know if you have any questions or comments.

Shaping Surfboards San Clemente

This is the latest custom shape for Jack, a 5'1 by 20.58 wide and 2.5 thick with black glue lines and a bass stringer. Over 7 years ago the majority of the boards I shaped were longer in the 8-10ft range. Now it's 60% shaping all shapes and sizes under 8ft . The remaining 40% is everything in between 8-10'6. Long story short I enjoy shaping more then ever because of the opened mind of the surfers today. This board is a great example of the many varieties this day in age in the shaping and surfing world it's great.
Stop in on the weekends and check out all the short and long boards and artwork. Get your orders in before summer... 949-361-5885 or Cboards.com
