surfboard fin drawing by Paul Carter

Painting a surfboard fin

I was recently commissioned by a long time friend C.M, we grew up surfing one of the magical surf breaks of Trestles.

He ask for a design around the infamous break called church,  hence the name church which was a stones throw away from the water back in a previous time capsule of Camp Pendleton.

This a perspective either from the bridge or the hill top.  There is a large palm tree on the north side of the bridge that was there in the early 1980s, along with many more just south.

I like to create a sketch of an idea before painting and this is the actual size of the fin and drawing which is a 9.5 inch fin.

When I start the painting I will adjust certain parts of the original drawing which is part of being totally present in the creative process.

In the image below I use paint pens starting with white to layout the scene before diving into the multiple colors of the painting.

I am putting together a short video of the painting process which will be on my YouTube channel soon so please join the tribe from link below click and then click subscribe when you go to the channel 👍🏾
