Custom Longboard San Clemente Shaper Paul Carter

This is a custom ordered blank by usblanks.   A solid basswood wedge stringer which gives strength and a one of kind look.
I Hand shaped this board for waist to shoulder high waves to cruise and carve in the pocket when available.
I went with a little light glass on this board using 4/4 top and 4 bottom.  I like to knee paddle for a few reasons so I went with a nice looking knee patch.

This has been in the works for awhile and I decided to go with a glass on fin with a clean round pin for smoother turns and nose riding.

I went with a 9 inch fin and with the abstract art and a hand painted the fin on both sides to complete to complete this one of kind surfboard.

Dream draw create and live the lifestyle by Paul Carter

As a surfer since age 5 it’s been a journey of growth on many levels

Through the single digits of youth into the double digits of the teen years to learn by doing.

The path into manhood and continuing to break through the many layers of unhealthy conditioning is a daily focus of becoming a healthy human with confidence not ego or fear.

Growing forward with faith and taking the steps with courage from the inside out one day one wave at a time is key.

I am inspired to share my journey and the experiences I have learned and continue to learn with those that resonate with them and are open to listen and learn.

It is very empowering to share the positive selfless energy with all ages for the future generations.

 In one foot to
10 foot waves,  there is a freedom in facing the fears and to continue to grow through them and have fun by being totally present in the moment with positive perceptions.

I like to draw the surfboards to get a idea and a feel for what I am after before going into the shaping room to create them.

In the first drawing of surfboards the outlines are each unique and vary in dimensions starting from nose to the center down to the tail and even the width of the actual ends of the tails themselves.

The nose outlines can be changed from a round nose into a semi pointed nose and everything in between made custom for you the customer.

Round pin tails are smooth for all around surfing,  the pin tails are for hollower waves to really stay connected to the wave.

As you get into the thumb tails and squash tails  and into square tails, each one will release quicker out of the turns.

This is a simple overview of the many types of board designs for your surfing style.

I began writing and drawing on my personal boards in the late 80s and it has evolved even more since  started hand shaping 1993.

The sketch below is what I create for new commissions of art and ideas.

These custom surfboards are for surfing or to hang in a home or a business to keep the fire stoked in ones life.

The boards are 100% organic in the creative process and hand shaped and hand painted freehand no tracing or computer.

Some people call me old school and I call it New school.

One must stay connected to the roots of truly Hand made and using ones left and right brain and stay in the dirt to live a healthy life of longevity.

Thank you for taking the time and reading my creative journey to the live a healthy
lifestyle by choice not chance

Learning by doing is the key to be truly free.

Handmade custom Surfboards & Art by Paul Carter

Two custom Hand Shaped Surfboards.

The board on the left is a custom blank made by Clark Foam in 2006.  It is designed with three redwood stringers.  The center stringer is 1/4 inch and the two sides are 1/8 thick for the curves of the waves

I am putting together a short YouTube video for my channel, link is below.  The video will show more of the details of the painted board with more close up shots of the stringers and the colors of the painted waves.

The painted board is just under 9’6 by one inch with a 18 inch nose and 22.50 center and a 14.50 tail.

I rode the board is the annual Sano Surf Club contest which was a great time and I managed to get some good waves and a first place wooden trophy.

At the time I wanted to create a clsssic performance style board and a one of kind painting for the art shows and of course surfing and to have fun cruising and nose riding.

The board on the right was a remake from a well used board in the early 2000.

In the early 1990s I saw a Rene Yater board with the same stringer set up and it made logical sense on a few levels.  It only took one board to realize the importants I’d having the stringers wide enough for the coenteenbox to fitnin cleanly.  I handshaped a few hundred of these double wedge stringer boards in all sizes.

It was time to let this board go to a stoked human and I am happy to say it did.

Parts on the path in the last two weeks, a time capsule of moments to remember on the journey.

A moonrise at Sano with shark on the shack and yes in the water.

This was a surprise from a good friend Mike Muir👍🏾
surfing Sano this month on one of the 3 days of off shore winds and a nice combo swell.

I am riding a fresh new 7’6 straight 3 fin and it is doing exactly what I shaped it for

Shortboards surfboards San Clemente Paul Carter

A new shortboard and a comparison on the two shapes.
On the left a 5'11 by 19.75 both are 2.38 thick, the board on the right is a 5'9 by 21.
I have been riding the 5'9 in knee to chest high surf and I'm very stoked with the speed it carries through the flat sections with more then enough speed for quick or carving turns and slide when you want it.

I wanted to make a board for chest high to overhead surf that has a similar curve with a bit less volume all the way around.
