Custom San Clemente surfboards & art by Paul Carter

San Clemente Surfboards custom made with original art both hand shaped and hand painted.

A time capsule from the past to the present of the thousands of surfboards I have handshaped since 1993 and the 100s of Surfboards & paintings since 2000.

I am writing this blog journal to capture my journey, because it is very easy to forget where we have come from,  and the courage it took and takes on this journey to learn by doing the work and to embrace the creative arts that I and we enjoy 🗝

When I look at this painting I can only imagine what it was like back then before the harbor, with the water men like Ron Drummond, Lauren Harrison, Pete Peterson, Mickey Munoz, Phil Edwards, Hobie Alter, and cast of many more, surfing sailing and living off the land for the select few who knew how.

This board was created for the SoCal woodie club along with an original canvas painting of the classic Dana Cove.

It was for raising money through the raffles at one of the gatherings of the club with 100s of classic cars.

How to draw waves & surf art by Paul Carter

Simple tips on how to draw waves and the way one learns is by doing the consistent activity with what you want to learn.

Born in Laguna Beach, California, I was raised in the small communities of SoCal and the surfing lifestyle.

My surfing journey began at age 4, I learned on a long board that Was to big and heavy to carry.
I was pushed into 6-12 inch waves and riding straight in to the beach.

Through the journey of exposures to surfing and surfboards and surf shops and the many beaches and characters on them, little did I know that many years later I would want to learn how the shape surfboards and build a business from it.

The same is true for wanting to learn how to paint and draw.  I did some basic drawing as a child periodically, you know those day dreaming times  during my grade school years and during my high school years as well.

In high school I only took one drawing class with a great teacher named Rick Delanty who is and was and inspiration with fitness and art, and a professional paid artist.

Inspired art with positive reminders by Paul Carter #048

Inspired art with positive reminders by Paul Carter

Drawing and creating is something that I have come to realize is healthy on a few levels and it activates the right and left side of the brain and keeps my imagination open and focused on the positive thoughts and the memories and energy alive.

I have learned how to surf by doing,  I have learned how to shape surfboards by doing how to draw and paint tropical surf scenes by doing,  the only way we learn anything is by doing the activity with consistency day after day depending on how good you want to get.

I have been playing with paint pens and colored ink pens and some colored pencils along with digital drawings and coloring to learn the different options and techniques that are necessary for each application.

I get inspired by nature all the time and the dreams are gettting more frequent with many surf spots to surf mentally and physically.

In this video you will see some of the amazing yuka trees and the many plants and some insects on the journey.

The peace and quiet of the desert is an emotional journey from the inside out, from the high paced activities living in Southern California or anywhere for that matter,  it's all based on one's choices depending on the conditioning and what we think are priorities.

A painting a started to cover one of the water tanks needed to live in the desert to be self sufficient and self contained in this diverse environment.
