Surf dream painting inspired in part by Thomas Kinkadet

I received a card in the past few months and I looked at it for a few minutes and I appreciated the art.

Like many artist from centuries before me, I was inspired by the art and put it aside and went on my way with the journey of life.  

Born in laguna beach California I have been a Surfer-Shaper-Artist all my life each evolving into the next and the next.

As you see from black and white to color, I have been inspired with the painting and drawing of clouds and the panoramic scene is a surfers dream or at least my own dream.

The journey continues to grow from the inside out the more I learn by doing.

Drawing & painting tropical surf art by Paul Carter

The first step is to get the inspiration down on paper and draw the design I am after before anything els.  

In this drawing I added a lot of positive reminders.

I put all of the words, quotes, and positive reminders on the back of the wood panel

 This is a 6 x 12 inch bass wood panel which I picked up at the San Clemente art supply in San Clemente California.

I really like to use these panels because they are sanded and clean and smooth and ready to go, and  can be used for all types of paint as you will see in the video.

I am reminded of how much I enjoy drawing and painting, when I break the old chains ⛓ of lies and thoughts and in embrace the creative process.

Sunrise at Sano breathing in the moment

12-25-2018  it’s Christmas morning with some rain falling here in San Clemente and it is awesome.  

These photos were taken in the last week or so on a morning sunrise at Sano with some amazing colors to say the least.

This place has help me get back on track many times and the ocean is a magical, healing, place to release and renew the mind, spirit, body and soul.

 I am grateful and thankful for all the people I have become friends with from the past into the present and future with positive intentions.

This has been a hot and humid last month with record highs with the air and water high hitting 79 to 80 degrees which was amazing to say the least.

This first image was walking down into one of the many beautifal coves in Laguna Beach with the white water lines painted on the water from the incoming waves.

The power of breathing tips by Paul Carter

The power of breathing is life changing on many levels and proper breathing is key.

I have been into many sports from childhood to adulthood and knowing the importants of breathing in the nose for more oxygen etc.  

Here is a short overview of what happens between nose breathing and mouth breathing in the nose  and the effects that happen in the bodies nervous system and chemistry.

I think it’s safe to say most people breathe in the mouth the majority of the day not realizing the strain  that happens over time and you add in exercising the body is on overdrive on adrenaline if not breathing properly in the nose consistently.

Please respect the beach and your fellow surfers and pack your trash and leave the mental trash on the beach when Surfing and look before your take off and share the waves and give a wave often.

 I’m reminded on this cool morning on April 14, 2018 the importance  at staying focus through the clouds.

I am looking out the back windows of this van with the waves around 1 to 2 maybe 3 foot peaky conditions and people sitting waiting for their waves contemplating life and whatever’s going on in their mind.

 I think to myself the importance of keeping life simple and not go down the rabbit hole and the rat race of buying stuff and all of the conditioning from growing up however that was for you.

We are living in a unique time of a age where every individual who has a smart phone now has the the option for their own media center and of course the library of endless information and knowledge which is amazing to say the least..https://instagram.com/p/BhT-xCanywJ/

 I feel that if more people would live in a van for six months to a year or two or three years or a tiny home they would get a healthier clearer perspective and respect for themselves and living a minimalist life with the simple necessities to thrive and enjoy a healthy quality lifestyle not simply survive.

I grew up in a home that was built in 1929, it was the second oldest home in Southern Orange County, an original doheny spanish style home.

 As a child little did I know that the solid wooden doors with these unique key holes would become an inspiration later in life as an adult.

I did some drawings at least tried in grade school.

I didn’t really dive into art until 2000 that’s when I was inspired by two or three artists and picked up some paints and began my painting journey which led me to today and this drawing.

                         Exploring the many different climates on this amazing planet called Earth.

Inspired abstract art with positive reminders for the journey of life.

It is key to be fully aware of morning healthy rituals that feed the mind, spirit, body and soul.

A abstract painting from the past to the present,  a journey of clearing the mind and sitting down and writing out all the old conditioned thoughts into all the positives in and around me.

 When you look at the painting you will see the small pieces of paper that I cut up and pasted them onto the white canvas then painted over them. 

 When I first started doing these mind cleansing writings around 2010-11 the first 3 to 4 sessions were an emotional journey of releasing many layers of the negative conditioning that we all have one layer or another.

Keep in mind when or if you decide to do this process it is between you and God and the universe or whoever you believe in and is for your eyes only, unless you choose otherwise.

The first two or three I shredded and burned the writings to release and let go of the old stuff, it's your choice.

In closing in this painting it was the beginning of all of the positive thoughts and words.  I was inspired to paint this wave recently in the month of 10-2017

Carrying on the hand shaped surfboard tradition

Starting with infinity surfboards in 1993 under the guidence of Steve Bahne,  I shaped 115 surfboards.

From there I went out on my own journey of surfing and shaping boards and learning how every change effects the board. I have been influensed by shapers such as Terry Martin, Midget Smith, Timmy Patterson, Brian Bulkley.

In the summer of 2000 I was stoked to shape some surfboards for Hobie Surfboards, I shaped 85 Surfboards. I ride many different shapes and sizes from 6ft fishes, twins, to quads and three fins and four fins.

Riding so many different boards keeps me stoked and energized on the different waves from beach breaks to reefs and the many point break waves I have been very fortunate to grow up surfing.
